The Club Finance Council (CFC) provides approximately $80,000 (funding amount varies each year) in grants and loans to eligible registered undergraduate student organizations on campus. Composed of 13 students (9 voting and 4 alternate positions), the council/board reviews funding applications and decides on which groups should receive funds. The main program coordinator of CFC advises the director of CSI on allocation decisions. Activities for which funds are sought should be well planned and likely to succeed.

Grant:

Any student organization registered and in good standing with CSI (Center for Student Involvement) is eligible to apply for up to $2,000 in grant money each academic year. CFC grants are the most popular source of CFC funding because the money does not have to be returned to CFC and is given to student organization on a minimally contingent basis. In order to apply for funding your organization president or treasurer must complete the online CFC workshop.

Dance Grant:

The dance grant program began in October of 2002 and a separate fund for dances was set aside. A dance is defined as a just-for-fun event held on campus that does not serve alcohol. Any student organization that wants to have such an event is eligible to apply. There are few restrictions aside from the aforementioned to the types of programs that are eligible for this grant.
           
The application process is informal and involves minimal paperwork when compared to the regular grant application. The maximum amount of the grant is $2,000 for events held in Freeborn and $1,000 for events held elsewhere on campus. The grant cannot exceed 80% of the organization’s total expenses for the dance. A single student organization can apply once every quarter for the dance grant.
           
To apply, the organization must submit a dance grant application to the CFC director. The paperwork must be submitted a maximum of 90 days before the event date (no earlier) and a minimum of 30 days before the event date (no later). Groups must be in good standing and complete the online workshop.

Short-Term Loan:

This is an interest-free loan with a maximum of $300 and a maximum loan length of 60 days, meaning the money must be repaid within that time period. There are no deadlines for applying for this loan. Please contact CFC program director if you are interested in applying. You will have to fill out an application form and submit supporting documents. Groups must be in good standing and complete the online workshop.

The criteria used in evaluating applications are:

• organization’s ability to pay back the loan
• benefit of the loan to the organization
• benefit of funded activity to UCD campus/UCD undergraduates
• past credit history of organization

Long-Term Loan:

This is an interest-free loan for amounts anywhere from $301 to $3,000. This loan can be taken out until the end of the fiscal year (October 31st) and must be repaid by that date. There are no deadlines for applying for this loan. Please contact CFC Program Director if you are interested in applying. You will have to fill out an application form and submit supporting documents. Groups must be in good standing and complete the online workshop.

• past credit history of organization

*Applicant for CFC funding must be the president or treasurer of a registered CSI student organization and must have attended a workshop this fiscal year prior to applying.

The 13 members of the council are chosen during the winter quarter for one academic-year term (fall-spring). Members gain experience in budget review and allocation, leadership and group dynamics. Applicants should be undergraduates who are familiar with student organizations. Usually, a board member has been at UCD for a year and has participated in a club/organization. Can you apply more than once? Yes! Student organizations may submit applications per each event/program. Some organizations apply each quarter based on the programming needs of their group. Please note that the maximum award given to an organization (regardless of the number of applications) can not exceed $2000.00

What is the maximum amount of money awarded? $2000 is the maximum amount a student organization may receive, but this is usually granted to well-planned, large-scale projects. Most organizations awards ranges from $50-$1200 based on the complexity and need of the project or program to be funded.

What are decisions based on? Decisions are based on a variety of criteria. Please refer to the overview of the Club Finance Council.

How long does the process take? The process takes about two weeks from the deadline to the posting of allocation amounts.

Where does the money come from? The money comes from an ASUCD grant.
